Having worked with film director Nicolas Winding Refn on a number of his previous film and TV titles including Drive, Bronson, The Neon Demon, we were tasked with establishing a new venture of a very different nature - a brand that NWR could use as a platform, like a modern day creative factory - which we termed 'byNWR'.
The identity direction was influenced by NWR's penchant for neon aesthetic, but with a signature form that established it as a very personal vision. A colour grad was applied to complete the design.
With the world of byNWR being incredibly diverse and eclectic, the online platform needed to allow the visitor to indulge and lose themselves in a world of fashion, film and art ephemera - including NWR's collection of outsider movies from the past - with a philosophical ambition to inspire creativity. Building from the ground up and launching in Lyon during its film festival week, byNWR established itself as a hub for NWR's love of the darker side, with films carefully restored and released quarterly alongside a multitude of other content, often exhuastingly crafted and meticulously presented.
With our user concept of READ/WATCH/LOOK/LISTEN guiding our members through its diverse and challenging world, byNWR grew a members base of users and enthusiasts keen to be a part of the journey with a design inspired by fanzines and Americana.
